time waster

It's not really a time waster if you're experimenting with this site while you're at home on your couch. So let's just say that I found this site while at home, on my couch, and on my own free time.

It's ICI Paint's fun room painter tool, which helps you pick paint and coordinating colours for any room in your house. I'm sure lots of brands have these little tools, but I was drawn to this one because of my chosen paint love, Gentle Tide by Glidden.

This conveniently suggests which shades of which colours are going to make the most of our bedroom decor. We're planning to paint the existing furniture — headboard and dressers — so this gives us a good idea where to start.

What I'm not sure about is whether our room needs a pop of dark colour, or if everything can be neutral and soft. I've been drawn to photos like these lately, with almost all light shades (the first image was the inspiration for our bedroom decor, borrowed from This Young House, and uses Gentle Tide on the walls):

Above, it's just a chair and some smaller, more subtle, dark accents.

And this last image makes the soft colour scheme work with bold, dark furniture.

What do you think?
