you are what you eat?

If you really are what you eat, then I'm a walking, talking carbohydrate.

I feel like I've been eating poorly lately (and no, I'm not talking about the traditional Christmas over-eat, though that totally happened, too). I would like to blame all the running. Running burns a whole lot of calories, which makes you hungry. In my case, makes me specifically hungry for carbs.

Enter the gadget that has changed my life:

Since purchasing a Magic Bullet during a boxing week sale, Husband and I have increased our fruit intake by 100%. OK, that's not an exact figure, but it has to be close.

It's hard to keep fresh produce in stock at all times, unless I want to spend several lunch hours each week trekking to the store for replenishments. And breakfast is the trickiest meal for me, since I don't eat eggs, bacon or much cereal. Fruit smoothies made from frozen fruit give us an amazing burst of healthy energy in the morning. Our basic recipe is about a cup of frozen berries, one banana, a couple splashes of whatever juice is in the fridge and a few generous dollops of vanilla yogurt.

And the Magic Bullet not just perfect for smoothies (yes, I am pointing to my Magic Bullet in a very Vana White kind of way). We've also made chocolate milk shakes, sun dried tomato veggie dip, and I've also used to to shred onions and grind flax seeds.

Has your life ever been altered by an appliance? Got any Magic Bullet recipes to share?

  1. Since Christmas co-workers have been flaunting their Magic Bullet smoothies and making me very jealous!

Hungry Girl has an amazing recipe for a chocolate-peanut butter milkshake that I've made before with my ghetto hand blender. It's something like a chocolate Jello pudding cup (fat free), a tablespoon of peanut butter and some chocolate soy milk. I know that's not the *exact* recipe but it's something along those lines and it's GOOOOOD.

  3. OMG! I love my Magic Bullet!! Just yesterday I made THE BEST roasted vegetable pasta sauce! I took a bunch of vine rip tomatoes, 2 cloves of garlic, one onion, 1 eggplant, 1 zucchini (spell check please?) 1 yellow pepper and 1 green peppper, roasted them in a VERY hot oven for 40 minutes then blended them in the Magic Bullett Blender attachment! So yummy! Since using the Bullet we have made it a priority to have one veggie only meal a week and its working out wonderfully! Smoothies are a must in our house now as well!! Enjoy :)

  7. hmmm I love love love my magic bullet. It's great for making your own rice/almond or other gluten free flours and guacamole so quickly.
It's a great tool in the kitchen. I had both a blender and a bullet, since the bullet arrived the blender doesn't see much light. The size of the cups make it easy to judge portioning. I like it a lot.
